Thank you for your interest in the Temple Anshe Sholom Religious School 2021-2022 School Year Our program of Jewish Learning occurs on Wednesday at 4:30pm and Saturday at 9:15am. (*NOTE: Grade 8-10 Students will ALSO participate in a 6-session ONLINE course “Madrichim 101” offered by the URJ, on THURSDAYS at 8pm EST on October 14, 21, 28, November 4, 18, December 2) This year, our goal is to learn IN-PERSON on Shabbat Mornings, as Public Health guidelines permit. As of November 3, GRADE 2-7 Wednesday sessions have also shifted to in person learning: 4:30PM-6:00PM at the Temple

At Temple Anshe Sholom Religious School, we hold the safety of our students, families and staff as our highest priority. As part of your registration in the 2021-2022 school year, we ask that you please read and familiarize your family with our Covid-19 safety guidelines for our physical space, students/parents, and staff. All participating families are asked to acknowledge reading the “Safe Learning Guidelines for Temple Anshe Sholom 2021-2022” document, as well as consent to the safe participation of each child on our updated “Temple Anshe Sholom Religious School Behaviour Policy”. The Bahaviour Policy will be emailed along with the Parent Handbook after submitting your school registration form.
Safe Learning Guidelines for Temple Anshe Sholom 2021-2022:
Teachers:
Mandatory vaccination is a requirement for employment
Will be provided with safety glasses to be worn when 2m distance can not be maintained
Will wear a mask at all times (indoors and outdoors)
Ensure 2m distance indoors, unless needing to be closer for purpose of instruction
Teachers must self-screen using our online screening link by 7:30am on Saturdays
Students/Parents:
Mandatory vaccination of eligible students (within 8 weeks of becoming eligible, with respect to availability and on-going Public Health guidelines)
Masking mandatory for all students/parents (indoor and outdoors) on Temple property
No parents will be permitted inside the Temple building, unless attending a specific school program. Adult participants of in-person school programs must be fully vaccinated.
Tot-Shabbat program will take place online at 8:30am
Screening, using our online screening link, must be completed by 9:15am EVERY Shabbat
School will begin with outdoor activities for all grades at 9:30am
Students may bring a water bottle for personal use and are asked to please bring a camping chair for use on Shabbat
Indoor spaces: students will aim to keep a distance of 2 M, unless separated by a plexiglass barrier for interactive learning activities
School will end with outdoor activities for all grades at 11:45am (dismissal at 12:15pm)
Washrooms : 1 student at a time permitted in each washroom
Physical Space:
In all grades, learning spaces will be created to maintain 2m spacing (family members of the same household do not need to distance)
HEPA filtration units will be utilized in all indoor learning spaces and windows will remain open year-round
Materials can be shared, but hand washing must occur before touching shared materials/activities
Each class will have a plexi-glass stand up barrier available to enable students to learn together and allow teachers to work with students at a closer proximity
We will utilize outdoor spaces as much as possible, with a pop up tent for each class
Shabbat Services and music/drama/dance will be split into 2 smaller groups, Primary and Junior (15- 20 students each), to maintain physical distance outdoors and to encourage active and safe participation.
T'fillah will take place outside where possible (parents encouraged to stay and join child- masks mandatory)
Music/Drama/Dance will take place outside where possible
Masking for all participants outdoors to allow for singing
T’fillah will be held in the large Frank Auditorium in inclement weather/Cold warning, and will include students and staff only
Music/Drama/Dance will move to the Mandel Auditorium in inclement weather/Cold warning
During large group activities, classes we will use hoops for visual cue of distancing (siblings can be together)
Learning will take place outside where possible (each Kindergarten-Grade 1 student will be assigned a foam mat to use outside as their learning space)
Students in grades 2 and up are asked to please bring a camping chair with them each day of school. A clipboard will be provided for each student to use outdoors
Frequent hand hygiene for all participants- Each class will travel with hand sanitizer
Washrooms and high-frequency touch-points will be cleaned several times during the school day
Safety Plan in case of Illness during school hours:
If a staff or student becomes symptomatic at school:
The individual will isolate in the Rabbi’s office, supervised by a staff member
There is a private bathroom/sink in the area
Appropriate PPE must be worn by supervising staff member
Parent/Guardian will be asked to pick up student in a timely manner
School Administrator will contact Public Health and follow advice/guidelines for contact tracing
2021-2022 SCHOOL HOURS
Kindergarten to Grade 7:
Shabbat mornings: 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Wednesday afternoons : 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
B’Yachad & Confirmation (Grade 8-10):
Wednesday afternoons : 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. (Grade 8/9 in person at times)
*NOTE: Students will ALSO participate in “Madrichim 101” on THURSDAY at 8pm EST on October 14, 21, 28, November 4, 18, December 2, 2021 Optional Volunteer opportunities with JK-7 9:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
School fees are payable at the time of registration, or a schedule of monthly/quarterly payment may be arranged for the year, at the time of registration with a minimum $50 deposit.
In case of financial difficulty, there may be available funds through a School Bursary. Requests for a School Bursary may be brought to the attention of our Director of Education in confidence, and all information provided is kept confidential by the members of the staff.
Requests for School Bursaries will only be accepted for children whose parents/legal guardians are Temple members and whose membership is in good standing.
Requests are to be submitted, in writing, to the Director of Education prior to the student beginning Religious School classes. The availability of School Bursaries and financial assistance is dependent on availability of funds and is not guaranteed year to year.
